UPDATE 9/13/21-
“ALL CALL” for Shavings Players Canceled – First Practice will be on December 5, 2021
The “All Call” for the Shavings Program players on October 3, is canceled. For their Badger Region/USAV membership, Shavings players will only need to purchase the Badger Region/USAV $15 “21-22 Badger League Junior 17 & Under Player membership” in November before the first practice, which is on December 5, 2021. More information on how to pay your Badger Region/USAV fee is available on the Badger Region Volleyball Association website, badgervolleyball.org by clicking on the blue MEMBERSHIP box in the upper right-hand corner.
Shavings players will also need to pay Wisconsin Ice VBC the $55 membership fee for the Shavings Program before December 1, 2021, for the season. This $55 fee should be paid when you register with Wisconsin Ice in your Oasys Sports account, which you can set up by going to the Wisconsin Ice VBC website, wisconsinicevbc.com, and clicking on the blue REGISTER button in the upper right-hand corner. Your Badger Region/USAV $15 “21-22 Badger League Junior 17 and Under Player Membership” should be purchased before registering with Wisconsin Ice VBC because you will need to enter your USAV number when you register for Ice.
After the Parent & Potential Player Informational Meeting on September 12, 2021, the Directors of Wisconsin Ice met and discussed the Shavings program and made the decision to forego the “All Call” on October 3, for the Shavings players due to the situation with the Badger Region/USAV membership fees.
Shavings players would have had to pay for a $10 “21-22 Badger Tryout” fee for the “All Call” and then purchase another $15 “21-22 Badger League Junior 17 & Under Player” fee in November for the season membership, which is a four-month membership. Unlike other age groups, the developmental Shavings program participants are not given the opportunity to just purchase the season membership right away that would have covered the “All Call”, too. This is due to the fact that the Badger Region/USAV season membership for the developmental programs only lasts for four months. The Shavings program starts on Sunday, December 5, 2021, and extends until the end of February 2022, so if a season membership was purchased in early October, it would not have lasted until the end of the Shavings Program at the end of February 2022.
Canceling the October 3, “All Call” will also save Shavings families the $15 Wisconsin Ice VBC “All Call” fee. All players interested in participating in the Shavings program this year will just attend the first practice on December 5, 2021. The time and place for the first practice will be posted on the Wisconsin Ice website soon.
Those parents and players that were unable to attend the Parent & Potential Player Informational Meeting on September 12, 2021, will be able to view the PowerPoint presentation that was shown at the meeting on the Wisconsin Ice VBC website early in the week of September 13.

The biggest emphasis at this age level is to introduce the athletes to the basic skills of volleyball. The basic skills are serving, setting, passing and attacking. Proper footwork and court movement will be stressed. A basic offense and a three or four person serve receive will be used. Athletes will be trained to work and communicate as a team on the court. These age levels (Chips – 11 & 12, Shavings – 8, 9 & 10) are offered as an introduction to the Ice experience and to instill a love of the game in our younger players. Chips teams will compete in a few tournaments; whereas Shavings is strictly an instructional program.
