Tuesday, September 22nd: REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR SHAVINGS, CHIPS PROGRAMS AND 13s, 14s TRYOUTS!
WISCONSIN ICE VBC TRYOUTS FOR THE UPCOMING 2021 SEASON
Welcome Wisconsin Ice VBC players, prospective players, and parents to the upcoming 2021 club season. We hope that you are all staying safe and healthy amid these challenging times with the coronavirus pandemic.
Our priority this season is to provide a safe and healthy environment for all Wisconsin Ice VBC players and coaches. We sent out a survey recently to all players and coaches that participated in the Ice programs last season and there was an overwhelming response that players would like to have some sort of season to continue to hone their volleyball skills and to continue to enjoy the sport.
No In-Person Informational Meetings
As part of our concern to provide a safe environment for our Wisconsin Ice family, we will not be hosting in-person Parent and Potential Player Informational Meetings this year to avoid large gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic.
In lieu of the in-person meeting, a PowerPoint presentation will be posted soon on the Wisconsin Ice website that will provide information regarding the Wisconsin Ice program offerings for the 2021 season.
Wisconsin Ice will not be offering Tune-Ups before the Tryouts this year to keep players and coaches safe by avoiding large gatherings during the pandemic. We understand that these sessions have been very popular in the past to prepare players for the Tryouts; however, the Directors feel that it is safer for everyone concerned to avoid these large gatherings this season.
Tryouts will look quite different this year with the threat of the spread of the coronavirus. Wisconsin Ice VBC is busy planning the upcoming season, which will include considerations to stay compliant with CDC, USAV, and DHS COVID guidelines.
We ask for your patience with the many changes that we will need to make this season to provide the safest Tryouts possible for both the players and the coaches.
Chips & Shavings
There will not be an “All Call” for the Chips (typically 11-12-year-old players) and Shavings (typically 8-10-year-old players) prospective players this year. We wish to provide a safe environment for all players and since Wisconsin Ice does typically take all candidates into the Chips and Shavings programs, we will dispense with the All Call and all players will be evaluated at their first practices. The first practice for the Chips will likely be in early November and the first practice for the Shavings program will be in early December.
All players who wish to participate in the Shavings and Chips programs this year must still register through our website on Oasys Sports; however, there will not be a fee for the registration for the All Call since there will not be an All Call this year. Membership fees will still be required with Badger Region/USAV (see the “Steps for Registration for Wisconsin Ice VBC 2021 Tryouts & Shavings Programs” document at the end of this article) and for Wisconsin Ice VBC as have been required in the past. More information will be available on the membership fees schedule in the Informational Meeting PowerPoint presentation that will be posted on this website in the near future.
The 13s and 14s Tryouts will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2020, from 11:30 am to 6:30 pm in the Stevens Point Recreation Center gym at 2442 Sims Ave, Stevens Point, WI 54481 (to the north of the PJ Jacobs Junior High School parking lot) .
The format of the Tryouts will be different than in the past. All prospective players that wish to try out for the 13s and 14s programs must preregister through our website on Oasys Sports and pay the $35 Tryout fee by the end of the day on October 1, 2020, and they must also purchase a Fall Membership with Badger Region USAV through SportsEngine. On-site registration for Tryouts on the day of the Tryouts will not be available due to precautions that will be in place to keep as safe of an environment as possible for the players and coaches during the Tryouts.
The 13s and 14s Tryouts will be conducted in waves of approximately 10 to 12 members. Those who register to participate in the Tryouts will be invited to attend a Tryouts session by e-mail message at a designated time, sometime between 11:30 am and 6:30 pm on October 4, 2020, during which they will be ranked and rated through station drills and observations during on-court play. For instance, if 36 players are pre-registered for the 13s Tryouts, there will be three sessions of 12 players that will be evaluated.
After all of the 13s and 14s Tryouts waves have been conducted, the players will be ranked and rated to determine which players will be invited to participate on the teams. If there are any questions in the minds of the evaluators at the end of the session, those players in question might be invited back for a second tryout evaluation to finalize the teams. When you receive your invitation for your Tryout session, there will be protocol in the e-mailed invitation that must be followed when entering the facility, trying out, and exiting the building to keep everyone as safe as possible
The Tryouts for the 15s through 18s will be conducted on Saturday, November 14 and/or Sunday, November 15. If the threat of the spread of the coronavirus is still present at that time, the Tryouts for the older age groups will be conducted similarly to what was described above for the 13s and 14s programs.
The 15s through 18s players should also register through the Wisconsin Ice website in Oasys Sports for the Tryouts, which will cost $35. All players must be pre-registered for the Tryouts by the end of the day on November 12, 2020. Onsite registration will not be available. The 15s through 18s tryout candidates must also purchase a Fall membership with Badger Region/USAV through SportsEngine.
